Yamunotri is the first stop of the Char Dham Yatra and the source of the river Yamuna. The temple sits in a narrow gorge, reached by a trek of about 6 km from Janki Chatti.
Pilgrims bathe in the hot springs of Surya Kund and cook rice tied in cloth in its water, which is taken home as prasad.
Getting there
Road to Janki Chatti via Barkot, then trek, pony or palki. Helicopter yatras land at Kharsali.
