Badrinath Temple is one of the oldest holy places in India for Vaishnavites. The Badrinath word has come from the word Badri. This temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, that named Badrinarayn. This deity of Lord Vishnu is available in black stone idol. Idol of Lord Vishnu is 1m tall. The statue of this temple considered as one of the 8 swayam vyakta dham (self-manifested).
As per the historical account, this temple was established between 1750 and 500 BC. Some of the historical accounts say that it was a Buddhist temple until the 8th century which is converted from the Buddhist temple into the Hindu Temple by Adi Shankara. Adi Shankara was the extraordinary Indian theologist. And other historical accounts say that the temple was established by Adi Shankaracharya.
There are the most important festivals in Badrinath is Mata Murti Ka Mela and the Badri Kedar Festival. Both festivals give you another reason to visit this temple again and again. The Purity and beauty of this temple bring you to another world of devotional life.
Also, this temple is a house of other god and saints, like Nar and Narayan and Mata Lakshmi and saints like Vedanta Desika, Adi Shankara, and Ramanujacharya. The gate of the temple is printed with Myriad colors.
History:
History says that Lord Vishnu came here for meditation. He went to the deep meditation and he forgot about his body was completely biting from the harsh weather. His wife, Goddess Lakshmi was pronto into the Badri Trees to protect him from the cold. When Lord Vishnu came back from the deep meditation, he has seen his wife has spread herself into Badri trees. He pleases her and named that place as “Badrikashram”. According to historical books says that this place was filled by Badri trees, but now these trees are never seen.
Best time to take Darshan: Due to extreme weather conditions, this temple remains closed in the Winter season for six months (November to April). Also, this place is quite dangerous in monsoons because there are chances of landslides. So, summer is the best time to visit Badrinath. The time of the temple is 4:30 AM to 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

This temple is one of the four from Char Dham. It also finds in the 108 Divya Desams in India. This temple is situated at heights of 10,279 feet. This temple surrounded by lofty snow-clad in Himalaya. This place is fully surrounded by nature.
Badrinath Temple resides in Garhwal hill – Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, on banks of Alaknanda River.

- Air: Nearest airport for Badrinath is Jolly Grant Airport. Helicopter service is also available from Dehradun to Badrinath Temple.

Architecture :
The Badrinath Temple is located on the banks of the Alaknanda River. This temple is having a colorful main gate called the Singhdwar (50 meters tall with a small cupola).
The deity of Lord Vishnu, holding a Chakra and conch. The entire sanctuary is divided into three parts:
- The Garbha Griha (the sanctum sanctorum)
- The Darshan Mandap (for the rituals)
- The Sabha Mandap (for the devotees).
The desire of Lord Vishnu to meditate in Badrinath:
One of our acharyas says, once upon a time, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati were performing Tapasya in Badrinath Dham. After sometimes Lord Vishnu appears as a small child and crying loudly and disrupted them in Tapasya. Goddesses Parvati asked the reason behind his crying, to which Lord Vishnu replied, he wanted to perform meditation in Badrinath. Shiva and Parvati noticed that he is Lord Narayan in child avatar, so they left Badrinath for him and moved to Kedarnath Dham.

TAPT KUND
There is a natural thermal spring available just below the temple. This Tapt Kund is very important before to go to the temple. This is holy and filled with hot waters, that are necessary to go there before visits the Badrinath temple. As per mythology, there are five boulders in which are Lord Varah, Garur, Lord Narsingh, Narad Muni and Markanday Rishi.
NAR AND NARAYANA
There is one more story is related to Badrinath Temple. The story of two sons of Dharma, “Nar and Narayan”, who wish to expand their religious in Himalaya. This hermitage is discovery by another name also, that is Dhyan Badri, Bhavishya Badri, Yog Badri, Panch Badri, and Bridha Badri. Lord Vishnu loved this place, as it is blessed from nature and two fascinating weather with Hot and Cold Springs behind a river of Alaknanda. This is extremely overjoyed on finding this place and they named this place as Badri Vishal.
CHARANPADUKA
It is a rock which is believed to be imprinted with the footprints of Lord Vishnu, as he descended on earth from Vaikunth (his heavenly abode).
BRAHMA KAPAL
This is one of the holy places is situated in the banks of Alaknanda (100 meters north from the temple). This is performing for deceased peoples. It is believed that they will free from the Circle of Life and Death.
VASUDHARA FALLS
This is one of the beautiful waterfalls with a height of 122meters.
NEELKANTH PEAK
The height of 6,597meter(Approx). The Splendour of the snow-covered peak, as it received its first rays of the Sun. Named as “Queen of Garhwal”.
MATA MURTI MANDIR
This place is situated 3KM from the Badrinath Temple. It is situated in the banks of the Alaknanda River. This temple is to be the mother of Nar aKnd Narayan (Incarnation of Lord Vishnu-Twins Brother). Here Mata Murti performed restless Tapasya to please lord Vishnu to take birth from her womb. Every year, devotees are attending the Mata Murti ka Mela festival (In the month of September).
SHESHNETRA
This is located 1.5KM from Temple. This Sheshnetra place is the creature of nature. In this place, There is big rock between two seasonal lakes, on the opposite bank of Alaknanda River, which visualized of Shesh Nag (The snake of Lord Vishnu). Some peoples say he is guarding the Badrinath Temple.
